Connecticut Moose

Only one moose in the moose cam today, but isn't it a beauty?

The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection has a section for kids. It includes a page with some fun facts on moose. (I've heard of Huskies in Connecticut, but who knew there are moose there?)

Seeing Moose in Maine

Okay, these are just too cool not to share! Both are from the Yankee Magazine website (as is the photo on this post).  (image no longer available)
Moose in Maine: Where Are They? is exactly that--where to find moose in Maine.
Maine's Moose Country describes the three stages of comprehension when one sees a moose in the wild. There are moose spotting tips and some facts about moose. Enjoy the article and anticipate "that third stage of comprehension -- appreciating the moose in all its mooseyness."

Two puzzles

This word search puzzle is about Canada, but includes "moose" as well as other vocabulary about Canada. Check it out at sunniebunniezz.com .

Here's a puzzle of a different sort. During the last 25 years, moose numbers have declined throughout northwestern Minnesota. The Moose Mystery Challenge seeks to answer the questions about Minnesota's declining moose population. The US Fish & Wildlife Service website has all the details.

The moose drawing above is from the US Fish and Wildlife Service web page, and is credited there to Martha Minchak, Rhode Island.

Montana Moose

MontanaKids.com has a full page of moose facts and photos. There's some interesting information, like this: Baby moose (which are called calves) weigh up to 30 pounds when born, then reach a weight of 300 to 400 pounds before their first autumn!

While we're talking about Montana moose, check out this close-up photo of a moose in Montana. Look at those antlers!

Moose facts and fun

Two links for today!

National Geographic has lots of facts about moose, including a printable fact sheet and an audio clip (see the Multimedia area) in which you can hear a moose.

And, just for fun, here's a link for Moose Tracks ice cream. It's inspired by moose ... it's ice cream ... what could be better than that? I think my favorite would have to be Extreme Moose Tracks. Which flavor looks best to you?
